On a Friday evening at the Southside’s Jay Verno Studio, I teamed up with my photographer friend Jake as we witnessed the union of Shanicka and Damon in front of friends and family. The evening started with Shanicka and her Bridesmaids coming together with a few mimosas and reflections. Throughout the room, you saw the the face of investment, investment in their friends, her happiness, and their union. Good friends can be hard to find, but in this room, you knew that these friends, this family was forever. As guests began to sit and the violinist signaled the start of the ceremony, Damon walked to the front of the aisle, flanked by his groomsmen. He was nervous, but he was ready and excited to take the next step, to start his life with his bride. After the bridal party took its place, Shanicka entered the room. Each of her ascending steps was met with warm tears descending down Damon’s face. I gotta tell ya, he wasn’t alone; it’s June, allergy season, and everyone seemed to struggle with those “watery eyes.” From there, vows were exchanged, a few songs were sung, and a kiss signaled the embarking of their journey into their lives together. The night continued with dance moves, good food and more memories than any camera card can hold. Congratulations Shanicka and Damon, it’s been a pleasure.
